Praça Wenceslas


Hoje, a Praça Wenceslas é um ponto de comércio muito agitado. A praça realmente ganha vida após o anoitecer, quando os seus restaurantes, cinemas e clubes nocturnos atraem multidões de turistas. Os maiores pontos históricos estão todos a uma pequena distância a pé da estrada e vale a pena percorrê-los passo a passo. No extremo norte da praça, você pode encontrar o Museu Nacional da Neo-Renascença. Outro edifício relevante é o Palácio Koruna – uma galeria comercial coberta com uma belíssima cúpula de vidro datada de 1911.

Wenceslas Square

We'll start our short visit to Prague with the Wenceslas Square. Located in the southern end of Na příkopě - the great avenue the great avenue of 750 meters long and 60 meters wide. It was first conceived more than 600 years ago, in the period of Carlos IV, when it was used like a horse market. Since then, the square has often been crossed by parades by every kind of person, organization or political party known in the Czech Republic. A few meters from the statue is a board in memory of those killed during the communist period, including Jan Palach, a 20-year-old student who self-immolated in January 1969 as a protest against the Soviet invasion, four months before. Jan Palach died three days later with 85% of his body burned. 800,000 people attended the funeral. Following the collapse of the Communist regime in December 1989, Václav Havel and Alexander Dubcek appeared on the balcony of No. 36 to greet their enraptured supporters. Palach and other victims of the regime are honored in a small sanctuary before the equestrian statue of St. Wenceslas by Josef Myslbek.

Today, Wenceslas Square is a very busy shopping centre. The square really comes to life after dawn, when its restaurants, cinemas and nightclubs attract crowds of tourists. The major historical sites are all within a short walking distance of the road and it is worth to walk them step by step. At the northern end of the square, you can find the National Museum of the Neo-Renaissance. Another relevant building is the Koruna Palace - a commercial gallery covered with a beautiful glass dome dating from 1911.

Cidade Velha

De seguida visitaremos a Cidade Velha, que por sua vez tem a sua principal atração,, sendo ela o relógio astronómico.
A Praça da Cidade Velha (Staromêstské Námêstí) está localizada bem no coração do centro antigo e é considerada o principal ponto de encontro da cidade. Repleta de construções coloridas, possui alguns dos edifícios mais antigos da República Checa, entre eles o prédio da antiga prefeitura da cidade (Staroměstská radnice). Na praça há duas igrejas: a Catedral Týn (Týnský Chrám), de estilo gótico, e a Igreja de São Nicolau (Svatý Mikuláš), de estilo barroco. Em seus arredores encontram-se diversos restaurantes e cafés e em seu centro costuma ter uma feirinha, além de diversos vendedores ambulantes e artistas de rua.
 
A principal atração da praça é o relógio astronómico (Oroloj). Construído no século XV, ele marca não apenas as horas, mas mostra também a posição do sol, da lua e das estrelas, enquanto sua torre mostra os signos do zodíaco e as estações do ano. Um grande evento acontece de hora em hora, quando uma procissão de bonecos de madeira que saem do relógio, encantando a multidão que se aglomera em sua frente.

Old Town

Then we will visit the Old Town, which in turn has its main attraction, it being the astronomical clock.The Old Town Square (Staromêstské Námêstí) is located right in the heart of the old center and is considered the main meeting point of the city. Full of colorful buildings, it boasts some of the oldest buildings in the Czech Republic, including the former city hall (Staroměstská radnice). In the square there are two churches: the Týn Cathedral (Týnský Chrám), of gothic style, and the Church of St. Nicholas (Svatý Mikuláš), of baroque style. In its surroundings are several restaurants and cafes and in its center usually have a fair, besides several street vendors and street artists.The main attraction of the square is the astronomical clock (Oroloj). Built in the fifteenth century, it marks not only the hours, but also shows the position of the sun, the moon and the stars, while its tower shows the signs of the zodiac and the seasons. A great event happens every hour, when a procession of wooden dolls come out of the clock, enchanting the crowd.

Esta Ponte captou o meu interesse por ser a ponte mais velha de Praga
A Ponte Carlos do século XIII; alinhada com quinhentos metros de estátuas barrocas ; está entre as atrações turísticas mais populares da cidade. Passear por esta ponte encantadora, com vistas impressionantes sobre o Castelo de Praga e o rio Vltava, é a atividade favorita de todos. Infelizmente, a Ponte Carlos é vítima da sua própria popularidade; na maioria das vezes ela está repleta de turistas checos e estrangeiros, especialmente durante os meses de primavera e verão. Para evitar multidões a bloquear as vistas deslumbrantes, acorde cedo ou faça a sua visita a uma hora tardia. Para apreciar a ponte com o seu ambiente mais romântico e tranquilo, a parte de manhã é a melhor altura, ou quiçá um passeio noturno pela ponte, com as ruas impressionantemente iluminadas de Praga como pano de fundo.

Das 09h00 até tarde, poderá se deparar com lojas de recordações e vendedores de cartões postais, bem como uma infindável variedade de músicos de rua. Poderá inclusive ter o seu retrato desenhado por caricaturistas, o que será uma excelente maneira de guardar uma lembrança do momento para sempre.

Charles Bridge

This bridge captured my interest in being the oldest bridge in Prague, which deserves a visit.The Charles Bridge of the 13th century; Aligned with five hundred meters of baroque statues; Is among the most popular tourist attractions in the city. Strolling along this charming bridge, with impressive views of Prague Castle and the Vltava River, is everyone's favorite activity. Unfortunately, the Charles Bridge falls victim to its own popularity; Most of the time it is full of Czech and foreign tourists, especially during the spring and summer months. To avoid crowds blocking the stunning views, get up early or make your visit at a late hour. To appreciate the bridge with its most romantic and chilling atmosphere, the morning part is the best time, or perhaps a night stroll along the bridge, with the stunningly illuminated streets of Prague as a backdrop.From 9:00 a.m. untill afternoon you will find souvenir shops and postcard vendors as well as an endless variety of street musicians. You can even have your picture drawn by caricaturists, which will be a great way to keep a memory of the moment forever.

Agora iremos conhecer a Catedral de São Vito que é das principais construções de Praga.

Catedral de São Vito - é uma obra-prima da arquitetura gótica e um símbolo de Praga, localizado no Castelo de Praga. Hoje é a sede do arcebispo de Praga. Este é um dos mais magníficos templos não só a República Checa, mas a toda a Europa. É muitas vezes chamado o centro espiritual da República Checa, relíquia nacional e cultural do país. Enterrado na catedral, os reis e arcebispos Checa de Praga, assim como as jóias da coroa são mantidos medieval Bohemia. Até 1836 não foi coroado rei da Boêmia. O primeiro templo construído neste lugar St. Wenceslas em mais 925. A igreja foi consagrada em honra de St. Vitus, cuja mão direita Vaclav recebeu um presente do rei Henrique Alemão na Primeira.

St. Vitus Cathedral

Now we will visit the St. Vitus Cathedral which is one of the main buildings in Prague.

St. Vitus Cathedral - is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and a symbol of Prague, located in Prague Castle. Today it is the seat of the archbishop of Prague. This is one of the most magnificent temples not only the Czech Republic, but the whole of Europe. It is often called the spiritual center of the Czech Republic, national and cultural relic of the country. Buried in the cathedral, the kings and Czech archbishops of Prague as well as the crown jewels are kept medieval Bohemia. Until 1836 he was not crowned king of Bohemia. The first temple built in this place St. Wenceslas in more 925. The church was consecrated in honor of St. Vitus, whose right hand Vaclav received a gift from King Henrique German in the First.

O Castelo de Karlštejn, que se eleva acima da vila de Karlštejn, 30km a sudoeste de Praga, está em tamanho bom estado, actualmente, que ficaria bem encaixado na estrada principal da Disneyworld. As multidões também afluem em proporções dignas de um parque temático, mas o pacífico campo envolvente proporciona paisagens do belo exterior de Karlštejn que competem com qualquer coisa que você pudesse ver no interior. Colocado alto num penhasco com vista sobre o rio Berounka, este aglomerado de pequenas torres, muros altos e grandes e imponentes torres tem tanto de bem cuidado como de poderosamente cativante. É merecidamente uma das maiores atracções da República Checa, e o único aspecto negativo é a sua esmagadora popularidade: no Verão está literalmente cheio de visitantes, vendedores de gelado e bancas de recordações.

Karlštejn Castle

From the general interest spots this will be the last one to visit.

Karlštejn Castle, which rises above the village of Karlštejn, 30km south-west of Prague, is in good condition at present that would fit well on the main road of Disneyworld. The crowds also flock in decent proportions to a theme park, but the peaceful surrounding countryside provides landscapes of the beautiful exterior of Karlštejn that compete with anything you could see inside. Set high on a cliff overlooking the river Berounka, this cluster of small towers, high walls and large, towering towers are both well-kept and powerfully captivating. It is deservedly one of the biggest attractions in the Czech Republic, and the only downside is its overwhelming popularity: in the summer it is literally full of visitors, ice cream vendors and souvenir stands.

Zoo de Praga

Este será um ponte de interesse mais pessoal, pela simples razão da minha curiosidade pela natureza.

• Tigres de Bengala; separados dos visitantes por um painel de plástico translúcido que coloca animais e humanos, num face a face de uns meros 20 centímetros. Se o tigre estiver disposto a aproximar-se, o que pode suceder mas não é garantido;
• Chitas; ocupando uma vasta parcela de terreno, surgem no seu topo como se estivessem em liberdade; são uma visão impressionante, mesmo a partir do exterior do Zoo;
• Lémures; para além de serem uns animais sempre engraçados, a possibilidade de entrar no seu habitat é algo novo, uma sensação a experimentar;
• Lontras; se visitar à hora da refeição (à entrada existe um painel com todas as horas de alimentação dos animais) são um espectáculo imperdível!
• Girafas; são muitas, de todos os tamanhos, e partilham o seu habitat com mais animais da savana africana, que, de resto, é reproduzida à letra, numa área quase tão extensa como a que os animais encontrariam em liberdade;
• Suricatas; adoro estes pequenos animais gregários, a sua energia e o seu organizado sistema de vigilância;
• Abutres; apenas se conseguir observá-los após ter sido servida a refeição. Os rituais de competição pelos melhores pedaços são dignos de observação;
• Crocodilos Piscivoros; pela perspectiva que o habitat oferece, pelo toque de diferença em relação aos crocodilos que estamos habituados a ver, pela espectacularidade do seu “bico” adequado para a apanha do peixe.

Prague Zoo

This will be more of a personal interest place to visit, for the simple reason of my curiosity about nature.For decades the Prague Zoo was an uninteresting, poorly maintained place with obsolete habitats and inadequate infrastructure.But the Prague Zoo is now a modern park, in constant process of improvement. Habitats are adequate, and some allow even a certain interaction between visitors and animals. This is the case of the lemurs, which can be seen very closely. The peaceful and social nature of these animals allowed the opening of their space to the people, offering a different experience to all those who visit the Zoo.Some of the current animals / habitats:

• Bengal Tigers; Separated from the visitors by a translucent plastic panel that puts animals and humans in a face to face of a mere 20 centimeters. If the tiger is willing to approach, what can happen but is not guaranteed;

• Cheetahs; Occupying a vast parcel of land, appear at their top as if at liberty; Are an impressive sight, even from the outside of the Zoo;

• Lemurs; Apart from being always funny animals, the possibility of entering their habitat is something new, a sensation to experience;

• Otters; If visiting at the time of the meal (at the entrance there is a panel with all the hours of feeding the animals) are a must see!

• Giraffes; Are many, of all sizes, and share their habitat with more animals from the African savannah, which is reproduced in the letter, in an area almost as extensive as the animals would find at liberty;

• Suricates; I love these little gregarious animals, their energy and their organized surveillance system;

• Vultures; Only if they can observe them after the meal has been served. Rituals of competition for the best pieces are worthy of observation;

• Piscivoros Crocodiles; By the perspective that the habitat offers, by the touch of difference in relation to the crocodiles that we are accustomed to see, by the spectacularity of its "beak" suitable for the catch of the fish.
